Ballymoat
5-y-o (01 Jan 07, Bay Gelding)
Sire: Grape Tree Road | Dam: Frosty Mistress
Ballymoat ran twice in PTPs in Ireland winning one and finishing 2nd in the other, which gave him a PTP rating of Rating 88. While this rating doesn’t have comparative number in GB, and he has yet to run under rules, in order to give you an idea of his ability, we can compare him to horses that Tim has brought into his yard over the last 12 months with a similar PTP rating.
Firstly, Jimbill, a 6yo who won his only PTP with a rating of 85, has had 3 races for Tim under rules since October. He won his opening bumper at Newton Abbott, and then went a close second in his next outing, a Listed bumper at Cheltenham in November. In December he won his maiden hurdle at Fakenham by an impressive 17 lengths, and in the process bumped his rating up to 127.
Another similar horse to Ballymoat is Rev it Up, also a 6yo, who won once and was placed a further 3 times in his 4 PTP starts. With a PTP rating of 87, he won his maiden hurdle at Chepstow in October before winning again at Ffos Las a month later. His 2nd place on his third start at Cheltenham in December in a class 1 race brought his earnings to over £9000 in just 3 starts, along with a rating of 129.
Destroyer Deployed is another of Tim’s successful former PTPs, and came 2nd in the Champion Bumper at the 2011 Festival . His full stats, along with Ballymoats, Jimbill & Rev it Up are all on the Racing Post website.
Back to Ballymoat and his plans for 2012
The intention is to run him in a bumper or two in February & March and then take him novice hurdling. The options and plans beyond that for 2012/13 obviously depend upon his performances over the next few months, but both Tim and ourselves genuinely believe that this is a quality horse that is going places.
